Police have identified the man found dead at Wheal Maid near Carharrack as David Alderson, 72, from Falmouth.

Enquiries suggest that Mr Alderson had a serious accident within the mine works and died at the scene.

Mr Alderson was known to be a keen cyclist.

Whilst a cycling accident is suspected, a bicycle has not yet been found.

It is likely that the bike would have looked as though it had been abandoned and anyone recovering it for safe keeping is urged to contact the police.

Police have asked that anyone with information about Mr Alderson, or of a bike found in the area, to get in touch.

Police are also trying to trace a vehicle linked to Mr Anderson; a Red Ford Fiesta Free Style with the registration plate RV51MZZ.

If you have any information then call police on their non-emergency number 101 and quote log number 182 of the 18th January 2014.
