Residents in St Blazey were woken by a loud explosion on Sunday morning after a stolen car was set on fire on Trenovissick Road.

Police say the gold Citroen Saxo was stolen from Landreath Place some time between 5.30am and 7.30am on Sunday February 2.

Tony Joslin, sector inspector for St Austell, said: “It was stopped on Trenovissick Road by officers but the driver ran off.

“The officers secured the car but it was subsequently set alight.”

After the car was set on fire the brakes failed and the vehicle rolled into another car causing the fire to spread.

“Two other vehicles were damaged,” Mr Joslin explained

“Fire damage was caused to an Audi A3 and Suzuki Jimney was damaged.”

Police are searching for the driver of the vehicle. He is described as a white male in his early to mid-twenties.

He has short dark hair and is of medium build. Officers said at the time he was wearing a mustard jacket, blue jeans and white trainers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police by calling 101 quoting crime reference number GW14-104.
