St Austell are searching for a new manager following the shock resignation of player-manager Dan Nancarrow on Saturday.

The Lillywhites' striker stood down after his side's CSWPL premier division win at Cullompton Rangers, with the club confirming his departure via twitter. It read: “Dan Nancarrow has stepped down as manager with immediate effect.”

Later on Saturday evening the club tweeted: "Seems a lack of support within the club was an issue behind Dan's resignation. He has done a superb job and worked non stop. Wish him well."

Nancarrow has proved a huge success since taking on his first managerial role 18 months ago.

In his first season he guided the club to a highly respectable fourth place finish in the CSWPL premier division after a fine run of form in the closing months of the campaign. The Lillywhites are currently sixth in the table after Saturday’s 3-0 win at Cullompton.

Nancarrow, who has used himself sparingly this season, has revealed he would like to continue playing, but added it won’t be at Poltair Park, where he has been a firm crowd favourite both as a player and a manager.

Following news of his resignation players of St Austell and other clubs paid tribute to the striker.

St Austell’s Jordan Dingle tweeted: “Big thanks to @Nanks1109 for all the hours invested into the so often thankless task of management.”

Bodmin Town’s Luke Hodge also took to twitter to praise Nancarrow. He wrote: “@Nanks1109 you’ve done a brilliant job at @AFCSTAUSTELL and will be a massive loss! You’re also too good to put yourself on the bench mate!”

On Saturday evening Nancarrow tweeted: “Thanks to the players and fans for all you have done over the past 18 months. You have all been top players and top people.”
