AS WINTER persistently keeps us in its grip, plans are afoot to welcome spring into Truro.

The city’s annual cultural festival, which is funded and delivered by Totally Truro Business Improvement District (BID), will be taking place from April 4 to 20, and is set to bring a hive of creative, cultural activity to the city during the Easter holidays.

After the successful launch of Truro Festival last year, which saw over 50 events held across the city, organisers are creating an event programme designed to appeal to all.

Alan Wallace, Truro Festival organiser, said: “Last year’s festival had an impressive and varied selection of events. From the Limbo project in the Old Coffin Store to the Gig on the Quay – it really showcased what Truro can offer to the community.

“We will be building on those foundations for this year, by bringing a bigger variety of events and focusing on upping the ‘festival-feel’ in the city centre for these two weeks.”

Highlights for this year’s event include the return of Gig on the Quay, art exhibitions, creative workshops, a comedy night, spring flower show, literary talks and an Easter Sunday Family Fun Day.

The festival’s activities will be predominately based in the festival marquee on Lemon Quay, but there will also be 6 pop-up festival gazebos that will move around the city for the duration of the festival.

Alan added: “These gazebos will play host to a huge variety of events, from live music to theatre or hair cutting and tattooing!”

Events will also take place in businesses around Truro, including Truro Cathedral, Royal Cornwall Museum, Lemon Street Market, Waterstones, Truro Library and many bars and coffee shops in the city.

Viv Hendra of the Lander Gallery said, “At the Lander Gallery and Lemon Street Market we love to be a part of the Truro Festival because of all that creative energy surging through the city! Each year the festival grows and develops a little further and we are proud to be part of it.

Further updates on events and performers will be released in the lead up to the festival. More information can also be found by visiting www.enjoytruro.co.uk or find us on Facebook and Twitter by searching for ‘Truro Festival’.
