PLANS FOR a new fire station in Hayle have been approved by Cornwall Council today.

In a meeting of Area West Sub Planning Committee this afternoon, the £1million plan which will see the ambulance service and the police working from shared facilities on Commercial Road, was approved by 13 votes with one abstention.

It is part of the Camborne, Pool, Redruth and Hayle Emergency Cover programme, under which the existing Camborne and Redruth community fire stations will be relocated to two new sites in Tolvaddon and Hayle.

There is currently no Community Fire Station in Hayle, cover for this area is provided by Camborne.

Under the new arrangement, 6,500 people in Hayle will now be able to be reached within the ten minute critical response time.
