IT has been an exciting week for a Falmouth café, which has launched posh pasties and been shortlisted for an award.

Coffee shop and deli Picnic welcomed celebrity James Strawbridge and his Posh Pasty Co to its premises in Church Street to launch the new line.

There will also be a pasty by post service via the company website.

Owner Emma Douglas said: "Having James and team along to do sampling with customers brought a great buzz.

"Passers-by loved the pasties and it was great for people to 'meet the makers' and hear about recipes and provenance first-hand from James."

The hand-crimped pasties made to Strawbridge family recipes won in this year's British Pie and Taste of the West Awards.

Mr Strawbridge said: "We pride ourselves on delivering delicious flavours using quality Cornish ingredients.

"We are pleased to be working with Emma and her team giving people access to our pasties right in the heart of Falmouth and also nationwide through their popular website."

Picnic is up against eight other businesses from across the UK in the Café Society's Café Life Awards in the independent café/coffee bar of the year category and is the only one in the south west to be shortlisted.

Ms Douglas said: "We are totally blown away.

"We have been told that we have had a secret shopper visit – they were very incognito as we definitely didn't spot them."

The winners will be announced at a ceremony on September 23.
