A VILLAGE near Truro has been awarded £7,502 to be spent on improving its hall.

Philleigh, near St Mawes, has been awarded the development grant by the Big Lottery Fund's Reaching Communities programme.

Philleigh has no school, shop or bus service, with the only other public facilities in the village being the pub and the church.

The improvements will mean that the hall will be able to host health and fitness classes, dance classes and Cornish cheese and wine evenings.

Julian German, Cornwall councillor for the Roseland, said: "The lottery grant is fantastic, and great news for residents of Philleigh.

"The whole community is looking forward to being able to use the new and improved village hall."
