A community centre in Perranporth has helped locals banish the winter blues by holding a "New Year Lunch" for the elderly.
Perranporth Welcome Centre invited more than 80 people to sit down for a two course meal at the Ponsmere Hotel yesterday.
The annual Age Concern event, which is subsidised by money raised at the centre, is held after Christmas to give people something to look forward to.
Dawn Trevethan, chairperson at the Perranporth Welcome Centre, said: “It was absolutely fantastic, everything was beautifully done and it was a wonderful dinner - you couldn’t fault a thing.”
Alongside the meal, diners were treated to a raffle and entertainment from local legend Paddy Spring.
The Perranporth Welcome Centre, which is open between 10am and 12pm Monday to Friday in the winter and 10am and 4pm in the summer, was launched four years ago.
Despite its success, Mrs Trevethan would like the centre to have more visitors and volunteers.
“I would like to see a few more people come to the Welcome Centre, I think a lot of people don’t know we are here.
“It’s a brilliant place to come and meet people. We don’t throw you out after you’ve finished your drink, you can sit in all morning for a cup of tea and a chat if you like,” she said.
