KAYAKERS from Penzance Canoe Club are preparing to undertake a 24 hour charity paddle in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care in memory of two of the club’s paddlers who recently passed away.
PZCC are hoping to raise as much money as they can for the charity who provide specialist palliative care to our community after the deaths of Christopher Prescott and Gary Scraze.
They will start on the afternoon of Saturday August 3 and paddle canoes and kayaks throughout the night and the next day around Mounts Bay.
The club are urging people to come to the start point at Albert Pier and key points at Mousehole and St Michael’s Mount and catch a glimpse of the intrepid paddlers – weather and moonlight permitting.
Paddlers will be operating in two hour time slots.
Co-organiser Kate Tolchard said: “During the dark hours of the paddle, the more experienced paddlers will be heading up the coastline to Mousehole and back, continuing throughout the night. So any night owls look out for the little group of lights!”
St Michaels Mount will have its second visit after the sun has risen.
There will be many new paddlers amongst the groups that paddle along the prom from 12pm till 4pm on Sunday as they relieve those who’ve paddled through Saturday afternoon and night.
The event is open to PZCC members and also members of other local canoe clubs that want to help raise money for Cornwall Hospice Care.
Paddlers and supporters will also be able to use Penzance Canoe Club’s newly rebuilt facilities which include changing rooms, showers and a kitchen, lounge and balcony overlooking the bay.
Kate said: “Many of the paddlers already signed up are new and novice paddlers from our weekly Friday night sessions in Penzance Harbour. It is great to see people using their new found skills and gaining confidence and ability whilst having fun.”
This event is open to PZCC members and also members of other local canoe clubs that may want to join us in raising money for Cornwall Hospice Care.
