PLANS for new houses and care homes on the outskirts of Camborne have been met with objection from a local action group.

The Trelawney Alliance says the village of Penponds would be “swallowed up by the faceless urban sprawl” if plans to build 58 houses, a 50-bed residential nursing home and 48 care flats and off Tregenna Lane in Camborne go ahead.

The development is only in the first stages of the planning process – a pre-application was submitted in July – but the group is determined to drum up opposition to the plans to build

on land adjacent to Tregenna Fields.

According to Trelawney Alliance, the development forms the first stage of a larger plan to build “vast” numbers of houses on the land between Penponds, Camborne and Treswithian.

“Penponds is part of Cornwall’s heritage and its character needs to be preserved, not swallowed up by the faceless urban sprawl, of which this new application is the first stage,” said a spokesman for the action group.

The West Briton has contacted Savills Planning and Merlion Capital Partners for a comment and awaits a reply.

There comes a time when enough is enough, these houses are built for the profit of the housing company, nothing more. Now that Camborne is getting full up with nowhere left to build, companies have to start looking on the outskirts of it to continue making their income. And if being annoyed at seeing everything disregarded and destroyed for no reason what so ever than the greed of a company makes me a NIMBY,then I guess I am one.

I get it it's OK to look after the elderly by providing a nursing home and care homes as long as it's not near any NIMBYs. What a narrow minded lot they are.
