Pair from Redruth charged with tobacco smuggling to appear before magistrates

Two men from Redruth are due to appear in court charged with smuggling nearly 400kg of bootleg tobacco.

Lindsey Mayne, 56,of North Country, and David Anthony Mutton, 54, of Paynters Lane End, were charged at Camborne Police Station on Friday (October 12), following an investigation by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

They had been arrested in Redruth on July 12 on suspicion of evading tax on 371kg of rolling tobacco.

They were charged with importing/exporting goods with intent to defraud Her Majesty of duty payable under the Customs and Excise Management Act 1979, estimated at £60,000.

The pair have been released on bail until November 1 when they are due to appear at Truro Magistrates' Court.Investigations are ongoing.
