ORGANISERS of a Falmouth event which celebrates Cornwall’s special saint are calling for volunteers to get involved.

The town’s third St Piran’s Day parade will take place on March 5.

“From a very small but enthusiastic beginning in 2012, with support from the Gorsedh and local community, last year’s parade was double the size of the first,” said Esme Tackley from the organising committee.

“We would like to build on that support for next year.

“The parade is organised by volunteers and depends upon the generosity of local people and businesses for sponsorship.

“Planning for the event needs to start now, so we need to hear from people who would like to join the small committee or be involved.”

Organisers are looking for people to learn a dance, play instruments and act as stewards during the parade, as well as help with refreshments or help with publicity.

The parade is led by a representative from the Gorsedh, the Mayor and town clerk.

It is followed by walkers with flags, plus children from local schools performing a special furry dance.
