NEWQUAY Rowing Club is celebrating after landing a grant for £50,000 from the National Lottery.
The cash injection from Sport England’s Inspired Facility fund will contribute towards upgrading the club’s facilities at the harbour.
Work on the development is set to begin in early June, with plans to build a store for gigs, as well as a training area, changing facilities, showers, toilets, and a kitchen.
A function room will also be built above the gig store between the tunnel and the existing building.
Newquay’s MP Stephen Gilbert said: "It will be a fantastic community facility providing the club with premises that will be a worthy home for the heritage gigs and pilot gig rowing.
“This funding has been made possible because of the driving force of Chairman, John Cuthill supported by leading rower, Mark Rea, the tireless work over 40 years of the Ladies' Committee, the commitment of the members and supporting letters from many people and organisations in the community".
