AN ALTERNATIVE way to fight back pain has arrived in Cornwall.

Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs is a 12-week teacher-led course.

Alison Trewhela, who leads a team of teachers in Cornwall, said: "Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs is the only course of its kind and has been proven to be effective in treating and preventing back pain by a study carried out by the University of York."

Ms Trewhela recently returned to Cornwall from living in Switzerland and has more than 30 years' experience teaching yoga and over 20 years' dealing with back pain.

She said: "I'm still trying to get some form of NHS affiliation for Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs.

"I've spoken to a number of people who are enthusiastic, so hopefully we can push through with the idea."

Ms Trewhela is running courses in Truro and Penryn.

I agree with many parts of your article yoga and meditation are great techniques to help with back pain - so many treatments for back pain just simply don't work - and are a waste of time and money - especially anti inflammatory drugs. I had a herniated disc at the l4 l5 level - and the only thing that worked for me was a daily regimen of core strengthening exercises mixed with daily juicing of brocolli, kale and fruit - and beetroot - sounds yuck but its not too bad! See the website http://tinyurl.com/pf9bp3k for more ideas on how to fix your bad back injury. There are lots of exercise videos that may help your readers
