Pre-season friendly: Mousehole 4, Falmouth Town 0

New Mousehole bosses Wayne Quinn and Matt Shiels got their tenure off to a winning start as the new-look Seagulls comfortably defeated SWPL Premier Division outfit Falmouth Town in their first match in charge.

Following the club's struggles near the foot of division one west in recent seasons, hopes are high of better times ahead for the Seagulls following the arrival of Quinn and Shiels.

And at a balmy Trungle Parc on Thursday night a Mousehole starting line-up made up entirely of summer signings produced a performance which augurs well for the season, as a brace from former Pendeen striker Wade Brown and two from veteran striker Shiels earned the home side a deserved victory.

As well as capturing the marquee signing of goalscoring midfielder Mark Vercesi, the Seagulls included three new arrivals from St Ives Town in Martyn Moon, Chris Russell and Simon Stevens, while Hayle's Owain Barrett and Nick Pugliese, keeper Dexter King (Pendeen) and former Penzance and Falmouth Town midfielder Steve Burt, who has returned to the county from Australia, were other new faces being given a run-out.

The Seagulls start their Division One West campaign at home to St Dennis on Saturday August 17.

Mousehole line-up: Dexter King; Martyn Moon, Owain Barrett, Wayne Quinn, Chris Russell, Simon Stevens, Nick Pugliese, Steve Burt, Mark Vercesi, Wade Brown, Matt Shiels. Subs: Mark Trevail, Tom Hooper.
