Mother told to pay more than £800 after children play truant

Truro Magistrates ordered Teresa Ellis to pay more than £800 after her children went truant.

A mother is being told to pay more than £800 after two of her children went truant from a school in Cornwall.

Teresa Ellis, 44, from St Austell did not attend Truro Magistrates Court yesterday but was found guilty in her absence.

The court heard two of her children did not attend regularly at Penrice Academy over six-month periods.

Ms Ellis was found guilty of two offences under the Education Act and was fined £400 and ordered to pay an additional £436 in costs.
