A teenager who went missing from Exmouth on Monday has been found "safe and well" in Penzance.

Harriet Melbourne, 14, was reported missing two days ago after she left her home but failed to show up at school.

Police made extensive enquiries and discovered the disappearance was planned after the schoolgirl packed a bag and took enough money with her.

She was last spotted getting on to a train at Exeter Central Station at 9.40am on Monday.

Last night she was traced to west Cornwall.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Harriet has been found safe and well in Penzance. She was located at 6.15pm after she contacted her family."

For those who are hard of reading, GLAD SHE'S OK AND ALL. Why did it take 'extensive enquires'? Why didn't her guardian realise she had just run off given it hardly took a Sherlock to work it out. People ***** about there being a nanny state yet the police in this instance have had to do just that.

@DoUntoOthers It doesn't matter how much it costs, she is safe and well, which is the most important thing !!!!!

Glad she's ok and all but I wonder how much that cost.
