MEAT and power tools were stolen to sell on by a Camborne man who targeted shops in Camborne, Redruth and Penzance.

At Truro Magistrates' Court Carl Sean Vincent Ascott, 40, of Carvolth, Praze, admitted to stealing joints of meat, a power drill and 20 steaks during June and July, worth £280 in all.

He also asked for two similar thefts to be taken into account.

His solicitor Dieter Kehler said he needed money desperately as he had only £50 a week to live on.

He suffered from depression and anxiety, was alcohol dependent and did not cope with things very well, turning to theft when things went wrong, his solicitor said.

Ascott was sent to prison for 16 weeks.
