FOR the third year in a row, the Truro Free Vegan Food Fair is coming to Truro City Hall, welcoming all to a tantalising selection of vegan food.
Ever wondered what vegetarians and vegans eat? Find out on Saturday, November 17 between 11am and 3pm and sample a wide variety of vegan alternatives to meat and dairy products, free. Veg out with Cornwall Animal Action, local organisers of the event with a selection of savouries and sweets to try, as well as cookery demonstrations, a grand raffle and stalls for the kids to make-your-own vegan pizza and create crazy cupcakes!
Sponsoring this year's event are Animal Aid and Ecotricity, highlighting the links between animals, the environment and our health. These links will also be explored in a series of short talks and screenings during the day. Stunning prizes in a grand raffle include an overnight stay including full evening meal at Michael House, B&B worth over £100 and a 4.5-litre bottle of Bell's whisky. Many celebs, athletes and politicians go vegan when they find out the facts: it takes up to 11,000 litres of water to produce the meat to make a half pound hamburger, up to 4,000 litres for a cow to make a litre of milk ... and that's just the water.
One hectare of Amazon rainforest has been lost to cattle ranchers every 18 seconds ... but here's the good news, there are lots of ways to substitute the meat and dairy in your diet, even if it is just one day per week, for example Meat-Free Monday – an initiative backed by Sir Paul McCartney.
The first 50 visitors through the door will each get a goodie bag full of tasters, so come early.
