Man's manure fetish made life 'absolute hell' for family

A CAMBORNE man whose perverted behaviour made life "absolute hell" for a Redruth family has been jailed for two years.

David Truscott, 41, of Pengegon Parc, appeared before Truro Crown Court after being discovered naked apart from a sock and covered in mud and manure at Woodbury House Farm by the family's teenage son on February 26.

It was Truscott's second breach of a restraining order banning him from the Roths' farm.

The court heard he had already been jailed for an arson attack at the farm which killed a cow, and a series of other offences linked to his desire for sexual gratification in manure.

Prosecutor Gareth Evans asked Judge Christopher Elwen to look at the victim impact statement from Jacqueline Roth.

He said: "It is difficult to overstate the impact this man's actions have had on a perfectly law-abiding family, in particular the youngest son.

"Mrs Roth states that every night her three-year-old had to go around the house checking that the fire alarms were working for him to get a good night's sleep.

"Mrs Roth's mother, who lives nearby, has been in fear of her home being attacked. The breach has involved significant psychological harm to the family."

Truscott was first caught at the farm in 2004, when he was discovered committing a sex act in a muck spreader.

The family cleaned the muck spreader to deter him from returning, but it made him so angry that he set fire to hay in a barn, leading to the death of a cow. He was jailed for three years for arson and burglary.

In 2009, he was found again at the farm after breaking in, undressing and committing a sex act in the muck spreader.

He was given a 16-week prison sentence and a restraining order which he breached for the second time in February.

Mark Charnley, for the defence, submitted reports from a community psychiatric nurse and a probation officer.

He said: "He is a scarred, vulnerable and socially inadequate man, suffering from depression and autism. He does show remorse and realises the harm he is doing to the family."

Sentencing, Judge Elwen said: "For a period of at least six years, if not longer, you have made the home life of the Roth family absolute hell through your bizarre fetish."

He ordered him to serve two years for breaching the restraining order and three months to be served concurrently for harassment.
