A MAN has been airlifted to hospital with “possibly life-changing” leg injuries after his car careered off the road into woodland near Quintrell Downs this afternoon.

Firefighters from Newquay, St Columb and Bodmin were needed to cut the 20-year-old driver from his car, thought to be a silver Renault Clio, on the A3058.

The Cornish Guardian understands the man was on his way to visit his girlfriend in Newquay when the accident happened at around 12.50pm. No other vehicles were involved.

A police spokeswoman said: “A 20-year-old male was removed from the vehicle with serious leg injuries. They are not life-threatening, but possibly life-changing.”

A fire service spokesman added: “The vehicle involved had left the road and there was one male casualty trapped in the wreckage. Using two sets of crash rescue equipment firefighters removed the roof from the vehicle and assisted ambulance paramedics with the extraction of the casualty.”

No further details are known at this time.
