A FAMILY had a lucky escape after a huge wave knocked them off their feet on a harbour wall.

The family were spotted by a member of the public on the wall at Mullion Cove yesterday.

Phil Rodda said on Facebook that it was extremely dangerous and he could not believe what he was seeing

He said: “It beggars belief. I was down at Mullion Cove where it was very windy and the sea was extremely rough.

“These photos show a bloke allowing a child to look over the harbour wall at the rough sea – next minute the sea broke over them and knocked them to the ground.

“Fortunately, they weren’t washed into the sea but were very lucky.

“Then mother, I assume, marched off with child in her arms with a soaking wet bloke following on behind. Unbelievable.”

It comes after the coastguard and police issued a joint warning yesterday, urging people to stay away from coastal areas until the current storm has passed. People are also being told not to enter the sea at any time.

Lucky escape never it was the result of foolish action by the child's parents which could easily have been very serious and could have involved the emergency services risking lives to save them. They should be named and shamed for their idiocy.
