Loose turf blights Truro’s Trafalgar roundabout

Heavy rain and gale force winds have uprooted freshly laid grass on Truro’s recently completed Trafalgar roundabout.

Just seven days after metres of fresh grass was laid across the £2.25 million roundabout, torrential rain and strong winds have blown off sections of turf.

The dislodged grass and soil made conditions on the roundabout slippery for shoppers and workers making their Christmas Eve commutes.

Fortunately the larger sections of earth were moved from the road by 9am, but motorists are still be asked to drive with caution.

The construction of Trafalgar roundabout is now complete after months of work by Cormac for Cornwall Council.

Yet commuters have been left less than impressed by the 24 hour traffic lights and additional lane.

Michaela McConville from Threemilestone said: “It’s a mini-Chivy and there’s going to be an accident.

“I’ve already had a near miss with a van driver cutting across me at speed because he realised he was in the wrong lane.”

The roundabout has also gained added notoriety after the parody account, @TrafalgarTruro, was set up in its name on the social networking site, Twitter.
