Looe landslip victim formally identified

A woman killed when the building she lived in collapsed on Friday morning has been formally identified by police as Susan Norman.

The body of the 68-year-old was found hours after the collapse during torrential rain in Sandplace Road, Looe.

Susan, a mother-of-two, was the only person unaccounted for after the rear of the property was hit by a huge volume of mud and water.

Devon and Cornwall Police today confirmed her identity, adding: "The investigation into Susan's death is being managed jointly between Devon and Cornwall Police and the Health and Safety Executive.

"Work is currently on-going to make the site safe, in order to allow further specialist examinations to take place during the course of the week."

Councillor Armand Toms said he believed the building would be demolished, but said engineers face difficulty in removing the house because it is near other homes.

Residents in the area have said they want to know whether the tragedy could have been avoided.

Mr Toms, councillor for East Looe, told the BBC: "I would like to see a full investigation and the results made totally public.

"So if there were any problems people can be held accountable."

Tributes have been paid to Susan, described by friends and members of her community as a "lovely, friendly" and "popular" woman.
