HUNDREDS of residents around rural Newbridge and Lamorna were left without power this morning after a lightning strike caused an electrical fire.
A total of 431 west Cornwall homes were affected by a transformer that was set alight in Newbridge earlier this morning, with the likes of Sancreed and St Buryan also said to have been within the parameter.
Western Power Distribution (WPD) was called to the incident alongside a fire crew from Penzance just before 9am and 10 minutes later 333 of those hit were reconnected - however, the remainder had to wait until around 11.30 to be put onto a backup generator, according to WPD.
WPD said engineers are currently working to establish a full connection to the remaining 98 properties but no further information is available at this time.
The incident comes as many across the South West and beyond experience appalling weather conditions as the UK's storms continue.
