A SUSPECTED thief found in an elderly lady's house in Launceston told her he was selling tea towels before quickly leaving the property.

Shortly afterwards, the lady discovered that a large sum of cash had been stolen from her bedroom.

The incident took place in Lynher Way, North Hill at around 2pm yesterday.

A police spokesman said: "The elderly vulnerable female resident was at home when she saw a man in the hallway of her property. When she confronted him, he stated that he was selling tea towels and quickly left.

"The suspect is described as being a white man, medium build, approximately 5ft 8ins in height, clean shaven with short fair hair.

"He was dressed in smart dark clothing and was carrying a small dark bag."

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw a man in the area at the time or anyone who has information as to the identity of the suspect to come forward.
