LAND’S End Airport will close for two weeks in March after tenders were awarded for work to harden the runway.
The work is designed to address major issues the airport has had with waterlogging of its grass airstrip.
This has seen flights re-routed via Newquay on numerous occasions in recent months, hitting the airport hard after its recent multi-million pound renovation.
A spokesperson said: “The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company will be closing Land’s End Airport for two weeks in March to allow for hardening of the runway to take place.
“The airport is scheduled to close from Monday March 10, 2014, and reopen on Monday March 24, 2014.”
Skybus passengers, freight and mail will be transferred to Newquay Cornwall Airport whilst Land’s End Airport is closed.
Passengers booked to fly from Land’s End during this period will be contacted by IoSSC and offered an alternative flight to or from Newquay at no extra cost.
The spokesperson said: “If any passengers due to travel to or from Land’s End during this period have any queries then please contact the Travel Centre on 0845 710 5555.”
