EXPECT the military to arrive in St Austell on Saturday – it’s unlikely to be the official armed forces helping out with flooding, but instead you might spot a selection of stormtroopers from the Imperial Starfleet.
It’s inevitable that familiar characters from films such as Star Wars will turn up to the first Comic Book and Sci-fi Convention for St Austell when it comes out of hyper-space to land at White River Place.
Organised by the shopping centre and Final Frontier comic book store, Kerpow will run between 10.30am and 3.30pm in the unit next to TK Maxx.
There will be more than 30 specialist traders, selling collectors’ items such as new and vintage comics, graphic novels, Star Wars merchandise, computer games, trading cards, jewellery, Disney, art work, t-shirts, sweets, action figures, film memorabilia and more.
Visitors are encouraged to go dressed for the occasion, and there will be a green screen set up where photos and videos can be made of guests dressed in costume with a digitally projected background that allows you to appear anywhere you want to be, from the dark alleys of Gotham City to the heights of flying fortresses.
The event isn’t just for readers of comic books as there will also be lots going on throughout the day for families, and anyone can come along and join the many people dressed as their favourite comic or film character.
Richard Hurst, White River Place Centre Manager said: “Not only will KERPOW be a first for St Austell, it will also be the biggest and best comic convention to come to Cornwall, and we’re delighted to be able to help host it.”
Tickets for KERPOW cost £2.50. For more information visit www.whiteriverplace.co.uk
