THE public speaking skills of children from the Truro area were tested to the full in an annual contest.

Youngsters from Kea School emerged as the winners of the Youth Speaks competition organised by the Rotary Club of Truro Boscawen. Judge David Hughes said: "This was such a close competition. The standard gets higher each year."

Kea School pupils Ella Hewitt, Henry Hallam and Lamorna Knuckey delivered a condemnation of those who do not clear up after their dogs in a speech entitled, Man's Best Friend – Who Pays?

Truro High School Prep were awarded second place and both teams will go forward to the next round of the competition.
