Cornwall's Muaythai and kickboxing look set for a treat at Touchgloves Gym’s biennial gala at Penzance Leisure Centre on Sunday March 23.

Aptly named Judgement Day 2, the show's headline bouts should be worth the ticket price alone, but with an extra 12 local and domestic challenges from the county’s best gyms thrown in for good measure, it all adds to what promises to be a thrilling afternoon of competitive action.

Top of the bill is 22-year-old from Penzance, Lucy Payne's defence of her Awakening world title over 15 minutes of A-class MuayThai against Spanish knockout specialist Vikky Lomax to hopefully secure a rematch with America’s Tiff Van Soest in the summer.

Touchgloves’ Vicky Church will also return to the ring to challenge the Welsh fighter Lauren ‘The Hatchet’ Huxley for the British title at 62kg.

Tommy ‘Zoom’ Green, who established himself as the best junior fighter of 2013 at his respective weight before a loss to Scotland’s multi champion Corey McLauclan three years ago, has fuelled a rematch to decide Britain’s No1. This will be the biggest junior challenge of the year and promises to be an explosive contest.

Other bouts of interest include the return of ‘Magic’ Isaac Ashley, now 18, who makes his adult debut after four years out of competition against Polish athlete Marcin Zladkov, while Jack Deacon makes his pro debut at 89kg after shedding five stones in weight during 2013.

Local gyms WAKT, Camborne, SO8 Falmouth, Kernow MAA St Austell and Koncept Newquay make up a fantastic undercard to offer a family day out with a lighting and sound display from ninetwentyfive, Thai food by Sukhothai, bar and independent judges from Bedford, Birmingham and Cambridge.

Doors will open at noon with the first fight scheduled for 1pm.

Tickets priced £20 and £15 for U12s are now on sale. For details contact Nathan Kitchen on 07974333489, email info@touchgloves.co.uk, or visit www.awakeningfighters.com/events/upcoming/
