THE COASTGUARD has come to the aid of a French fisherman who suffered a head injury 40 miles off the Isles of Scilly early this morning.

French authorities contacted the county’s emergency service at 8.30am after receiving a 999 call from the vessel’s crew, with a doctor recommending immediate evacuation.

The fisherman is to be taken to Treliske in Truro by helicopter for treatment.

A spokesman at the Coastguard said he was struck by an object on board his boat, though his condition is unknown at this time.
