AN IMPOTENT Penzance man who downloaded tens of thousands of indecent pictures of children has claimed he got no sexual gratification out of them.
Russell Thomas, of Polmeere House, was caught with more than 79,000 images of children on his computer after police received a tip off about a UK website that had been compromised and had been infiltrated with a secret doorway leading to illegal pornography.
The 53-year-old appeared at Truro Crown Court on Friday to be sentenced for 11 counts of possessing or making indecent images of children and two of possessing prohibited images.
Elaine Hobson, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said police searched Thomas’ home on March 14 this year and seized his computer equipment.
He was arrested and interviewed by police. He admitted to officers that he was in possession of the material but said that he had not viewed the pictures for sexual gratification because he was impotent and suffers from Asperger’s syndrome.
Thomas was sentenced to a two-year community order and ordered to take part in an internet sex offender’s programme.
