Cornish Pirates have made five changes to their squad for their British and Irish Cup trip to Jersey on Saturday.
Ian Davies’ men are well-placed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition they won in 2010. Pirates lead Pool Six by nine points after three wins from their opening three games, with the Islanders in second.
The Cornish side can even afford a slip-up in Jersey, with Ayr and Ulster still to play in the final two games, but victory would leave them in an enviable position.
Dual-registered Exeter Chief Joel Conlon is unavailable owing to his selection for England Under-20 duty.
This week’s new additions to the squad are prop Ben Prescott, who has recovered from sickness, full-back Kieran Goss, and replacements Kieran Davies, Joe Atkinson and Tom Kessell.
Head coach Davies said: “We’ve had two closely-fought games against Jersey in the past month, losing one and winning one.
“They will clearly be keen to give a good account of themselves at home, especially just before Christmas, while our focus will be to perform well and strive to achieve another bonus point Cup win.”
In the other Pool Six tie to be played this weekend, Ulster Ravens avenged last week’s loss to Ayr by winning 38-21 at Millbrae on Friday night.
Cornish Pirates: Goss; Pope, Riley, James, Moyle; Evans, Cattle (capt); Andrew, Elloway, Prescott; Graulich, Sandford; Morgan, Cheesman, Phillips. Replacements: Channon, Davies, Barry, Atkinson, Kessell, Sinclair, Dancer.
