IF YOU want to put some money on the next big guitar band to emerge in the UK you won't go wrong with Canterbury.
The band have the chemistry that only comes from being longtime school friends and although still fresh-faced are already on to their second album, Heavy In The Day.
It's a magnificent mix of hardcore-inflected rock but with the saving grace of huge pop-savvy choruses. Think a more radio-friendly Hundred Reasons.
It has resulted in glowing reviews in everything from Rock Sound to The Independent.
Guitarist and vocalist Mike Sparks told What's On: "Luckily we didn't have second album syndrome – we were able to take longer to make this one and the result is definitely a more mature sound."
The band have been on the road touring relentlessly for the past four years playing hundreds of shows around the UK, Ireland and even some on mainland Europe. Originally starting off in opening slots for anyone who would have them, they progressed to slots on much higher profile tours with the likes of Billy Talent, Enter Shikari, Against Me, Twin Atlantic and You Me At Six gaining themselves a countrywide following of fans. Tomorrow sees them return to Cornwall for a headline date at B-Side at Bunters, Truro.
Mike added: "We played Leopallooza in Bude a few years ago which was amazing so we're really excited about coming back – this will be the furthest west we've played.
"Though we're playing the same night as Frank Turner which could prove interesting. Someone told me, 'no one plays in Truro and now there are two of you playing on the same night'."
Main support comes from Mallory Knox, one of the UK's most exciting new bands. Their latest single has been played by BBC Radio 1 DJs such as Zane Lowe, Fearne Cotton, Nick Grimshaw and Daniel P Carter. Not restricted to radio, Mallory Knox have also dominated television with the release hitting the No 1 spot on the Scuzz Airplay Chart and single of the week on Kerrang! TV. Opening the show will be Exeter's Scholars.
