A CORNISH cider company has scooped two gold medals at the 2014 British Bottlers' Institution (BBI) Awards.

Healeys, Cornwall's longest standing cyder producer, was awarded gold for its Rattler 4% in the 'Ciders, ABV 4.0% – 5.4%' category, which saw a total of 18 entries. Its non-alcoholic Cornish apple juice received gold in the 'Fruit Juices – Ambient/Non-Chilled' category, competing against 14 regional and international brewers.

Cornish Bite, Healeys' apple juice-based energy drink launched in 2013, earned a Diploma of Excellence in the 'Energy, Nutritional, Functional Drinks' category. Diplomas are awarded for other especially meritorious products in each class.

This year's BBI competition attracted a record 180 entries based in the UK and worldwide.

Joe Healey, commercial director at Healeys, pictured with brother Sam, said: "We launched Rattler 4% last year at Boardmasters festival as an on-trade and session cider, so it's fantastic to have gained such a prestigious award within a year.

"We brew our ciders with a higher concentration of fruit juice to create a greater depth of flavour. Our apple juice has no artificial sweeteners or additives, with extra vitamin C for freshness. It's great to know that our new and established products are welcoming industry attention."
