A 27-YEAR-OLD Hayle woman was on her way to buy alcohol when she punched a man in the shoulder – but was unable to connect with his face because she was drunk.

At Truro Magistrates Court on Wednesday, Zoey Daly, c/o The Pathway Fields, admitted assaulting by beating Steven Jelbert on November 14, last year.

Gail Hawkley, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said Mr Jelbert told police he was a recovering alcoholic but that on the night in question he had succumbed to temptation and drank some cans of Carlsberg.

She said he could not recall anything that had happened to him but had woken up the following morning to find that he had a number of injuries including a bruised and blackened right eye and bruises on his arm and shoulder.

Ms Hawkley said: “The victim then heard, through the grapevine as he calls it, that it was this defendant and her boyfriend that assaulted him.”

Police seized CCTV and found footage which showed Daly punching Mr Jelbert three times.

Daly was arrested said in interview that day had been her birthday and she had gone out to buy alcohol.

She said she was angry and drunk and had punched Mr Jelbert in the neck.

“I punched him on the shoulder because I was that drunk I could not connect with his face,” she said.

Martin Pearce, defending, said Daly had suffered from a problem with alcohol and substance abuse for some time.

Magistrates adjourned the case for sentence to March 7 for a report to be prepared from drugs and alcohol addiction charity Addaction.
