Christmas spirit was in the air last week as Hayle Town councillors exchanged festive presents which were bought from independent retailers in the town.

Councillors took part in Hayle Secret Santa to help promote shopping in the town and highlight the range of products independent shops have to offer.

Hayle mayor, Jayne Ninnes, received a jewellery box hand painted by local artist Nova Blackstock, purchased from Makers Boutique in Foundry Shopping Village.

She said: “We have a wonderful offer of independent shops in Hayle which offer gifts which are different from those in the usual large stores. By shopping locally you can save yourself the stress of shopping in large chain stores, you get wonderful service and unique gifts as well as supporting your local traders.”

Other gifts included books on the history of Hayle from The Cornish Bookworm, local honey from Nature’s Kitchen and gift vouchers for Hampsons the Butcher.

The town council hope to expand the idea of Hayle Secret Santa by inviting the Chamber of Commerce and other organisations to join in next year.
