Hayle Surf Life Saving Club has come in the top five lifeguard training centres across the country.
Of more than 50 centres that offer the surf and lifeguard awards, the Hayle club were among the best for the number of members who have been trained up.
Last year 44 surf lifeguards were put through their paces by the club, testing their board rescue skills, spinal management, first aid and resuscitation skills.
All courses are run by volunteers at the club.
Dave Parker, club captain, said the fact that so many people are keen to train with them is down to the time and effort the club puts in to running the courses.
“Our guys dedicated themselves to do the training. We have got some really good instructors. When the examiners come down they are very happy with our standard. We have got the enthusiasm to teach the award,” said Mr Parker.
He added that the club tends to see an increase in the number of people coming for training each year.
Last year’s trainees were all successful in achieving their surf and lifeguard award, with many going on to work with the RNLI on beaches around Cornwall.
