2013 is shaping up to be an exciting year for entertainment in Cornwall.

Here is Lee Trewhela's guide to the year ahead.

JUNE

THEATRE

Monday, June 3 – Eddie Izzard, Eden Sessions, Eden Project. Last year’s Eden Sessions, despite being the most successful sales-wise, didn’t exactly thrill fans of the greatest concert series Cornwall has seen. This year is already looking better. Who better to kick them off but comedy’s renaissance man Eddie Izzard? www.edenproject.com

Thursday, June 6 – Reginald D Hunter, Hall for Cornwall. More top flight comedy a few days later from Have I Got News For You’s coolest stalwart. www.hallforcornwall.co.uk

Monday, June 10 to Thursday, June 13 – Strictly Confidential, Plymouth Pavilions. Craig Revel Horwood’s new show will give theatre audiences the chance to get up close and personal with stars of the smash hit BBC One television series, including Lisa Riley, Artem Chigvintsev, Natalie Lowe and Ian Waite. www.plymouthpavilions.com

Monday, June 17 to Friday, June 21 – Central School of Speech and Drama, Arabian Nights,

Minack Theatre, Porthcurno. The celebrated theatre school brings Middle Eastern tales to South Western cliffs. www.theminack.com

Monday, June 17 to Saturday, June 22 – Midnight Tango, Hall for Cornwall. It’s going to be a costly month for Strictly fans as popular dancers Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace star in their own celebration of the tango. www.hallforcornwall.co.uk

Wednesday, June 19 – Al Murray, Plymouth Pavilions. Disguising the fact he’s probably the most educated man in comedy, Murray brings his Pub Landlord back for more. www.plymouthpavilions.com

Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22 – Jason Manford, Plymouth Pavilions. He doesn’t present the One Show anymore. www.plymouthpavilions.com

Monday, June 24 to Friday, June 28 – Miracle Theatre, Waiting For Godot, The

Minack Theatre, Porthcurno. The Cornish company goes from Wilde to Shelley (via Coward) to Beckett in a year. Will be as wonderfully inventive as ever, no doubt. www.theminack.com

Tuesday, June 25 to Saturday, June 29 – Kneehigh’s Tristan & Yseult, Hall for Cornwall. The greatest night I’ve had in the theatre (that’s printable). Kneehigh’s masterpiece is back. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll rush out and buy Nick Cave’s Sweetheart Come. Though you should already own it. www.hallforcornwall.co.uk

MUSIC

Thursday, June 6 – Mayor & James: Hoagy, Hornpipes, Handel & Hoedown, Warleggan Jubilee Hall (and June 7, Millbrook Village Hall; June 8, The Centre, Newlyn; June 9, Whitecross Village Hall)

This show is spiced with Simon Mayor’s unique brand of off-beat humour (as well as his guitar and fiddle playing) and Hilary James’ ‘honey-dripping voice’. www.carntocove.co.uk

Friday, June 7 – T’Pau, Princess Pavilion, Falmouth. Carol Decker. China In Your Hand. The Princess Pavilion is going so Eighties this year it’s grown a pair of shoulder pads to go with its disco ball. www.princesspavilion.co.uk

Friday, June 14 – T Rextasy, The Acorn, Penzance. Danielz is still at it, being Marc Bolan longer than Bolan was Bolan. Probably. Always good value and given the nod by Marc mates Bowie and Tony Visconti too. www.theacornpenzance.com

Tuesday, June 18 – Moody Blues, Plymouth Pavilions. Former St Ives resident Justin Hayward will lead the band through a selection of prog and pop hits. Nights In White Satin will be the one before the encore. I bet you. www.plymouthpavilions.com

Saturday, June 29 – Kaiser Chiefs, Eden Sessions, Eden Project. Did I ever tell you I saw them third on the bill at Newquay’s Koola and knew they’d be massive? Okay, okay. I’m boring you. They’re headlining Eden for a second time but curating the whole day on this occasion. Singer Ricky Wilson now lives here so expect a Kernow love-in. But how will they fare now the songwriting drummer has left? Interesting times ahead for the band. www.edenproject.com
