A FOUNDER member of Praa Sands Golf Club collapsed and later died while playing at the club on Saturday.

Chris Tonkin, who was in her eighties, was also a past club captain and a member at Mullion Golf Club. She lived at Germoe.

Anna Harry, who was also playing on Saturday, said Mrs Tonkin was on the sixth green when she collapsed.

Lifeguards were called from the nearby swimming pool, part of the Praa Sands Golf and Country Club complex, and started resuscitation.

Emergency services were called and Mrs Tonkin was rushed to West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance.

Mrs Harry said: "She played golf every week. She will be sadly missed and our heartfelt sympathy is with Frank (husband), Hilary (daughter), Andrew (son-in-law) and family."
