There will be a new name engraved on the West Penwith League's Runciman Cup this year after holders Halsetown suffered a shock 91-run defeat at the hands of Goldsithney in the quarter finals.

Goldsithney batted first and posted an impressive 170 for three from their allotted 20 overs, before Halsetown, who beat St Buryan in last year's final, were skittled out for only 89 in reply.

Goldsithney now face the 2004 and 2005 winners Gulval in the semi finals at Penzance next Thursday, while St Just, who beat Penzance to lift the trophy in 2011, meet Hayle in the first semi final, also to be played at St Clare this Thursday (both games 6pm).

The Runciman Cup is a magnificent trophy, with the final an important event in the local sporting calendar. Hayle were the first winners, way back in 1934.

Engraved upon the trophy is the wording 'Penzance Cricket Club – Sportsmen's Cup – presented by Rt Hon Walter Runciman, MP'.

Semi-final draw:

St Just v Hayle at Penzance CC - Thursday July 11, 6pm
