THE meaning of giving to others was illustrated at Porthleven's First Steps nursery during harvest festival week.
Manager Dawn Page said local farmer Paul Parfitt provided wheat and maize for the children to examine. "We read and acted out the story of the Little Red Hen, collected vegetables from our garden plot and made soup," she said.
They also learnt to make bread, and collected fresh produce and other food to go in food bags for local people.
Local Methodist minister the Reverend Beverly Turner paid a visit, talking to the children about their harvest collection and creating a story in which the children acted as tiny wheat seeds which grew into crops. Food bags were later delivered to local people in Porthleven and gratefully received.
The nursery thanked parents and carers for their donations and Mrs Turner for supporting pupils' learning about the wider world.
