A French fisherman has been airlifted to hospital in Cornwall after a large fish hook became lodged in his forearm.

The fisherman, who was described as being in "an awful lot of pain", was fishing 70 miles north-west of the Isles of Scilly when the accident occurred.

Falmouth coastguard said it delegated with French authorities to coordinate the rescue of the man after receiving a call shortly before 3pm.

The man was airlifted by a Search-and Rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose in Helston to Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske in Truro arriving at 6.40pm.
