POLICE have issued a warning to motorists in Redruth after reports of vehicles being driven through the town's main shopping area even though it is not open to traffic.
Fore Street, in the centre of Redruth is usually blocked off to traffic at either end to prevent vehicles using it as a through-road.
But police said motorists have found ways onto Fore Street and are also parking outside shops.
Sergeant Tom Patrick, Redruth police neighbourhood team leader, said: "Fore Street, Redruth, is not open to vehicles in general at any time of the day.
"The only exception to this is between 4pm and 10am when delivery vehicles may use the street.
"Both Redruth Town Council and Redruth police have recently undertaken work to ensure people using the street in vehicles are made aware of this and several verbal and written warnings have been issued."
Sergeant Patrick warned that motorists whose vehicles are found to be driven through Fore Street or parked on it will face fixed penalty notices.
If anyone would like to report vehicles parking or using Fore Street they can call the non-emergency police number 101.
