The first rain following the heatwave has brought flooding to parts of Cornwall.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said on Twitter just before 10pm that it was investigating reports of flooding in Bodmin and Helston.

The fire service also said on Twitter that it was dealing with a property fire in Redruth.

Staff at the service's control room were unable to give any further details of any of the incidents.

The Met Office said occasionally heavy rain would spread erratically eastwards through the evening and overnight, giving parts of the west in particular their first significant rain for some time.

A Met Office spokesman said: "This rain should ease later in the night, becoming patchy by dawn."
