Fishermen rescued after trawler blaze

FOUR fishermen have been rescued after their boat caught fire off the Isles of Scilly.

Newlyn-registered beam trawler Trevessa issued a mayday alert just after 4.30pm yesterday after a firebroke out onboard.

An RNAS Culdrose helicopter, the Isles of Scilly lifeboat and two

fishing boats were involved in the rescue, which was co-ordinated by

the Falmouth Coastguard.

The men, who are suffering from smoke inhalation, were winched to safety and flown to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

The trawler is expected to be towed back into Newlyn by another trawler today.
