Fire crews were called to a car fire in Lanner this afternoon.

A crew from Camborne found the car near the village Post Office just after 12.30pm.

A spokeswoman for Cornwall Fire and Rescue said the car was well alight when firefighters arrived but they were able to extinguish the flames.

Police were also in attendance. It is thought the cause of the fire was accidental.

Hello my name is Eloise. Today on my way home through Gwennep near lanner, i saw a strange car parked in the middle of the road and the door was wide open. I thought it was weird so looked again and noticed a small fire in the back-seat. i parked my car in both lanes and got out to make sure there was no one in the car. i quickly got back into my own car and the fire seemed to engulf the car. I heard people laughing in the field beside and phoned the fire department who came from falmouth i think. I heard about the lanner post office fire and thought i'd add what i had seen today at 17:24. Hope who ever did it is caught as i noticed the fire had started from the middle/back of the car.

I am not surprised that the car was well alight, sending firemen from Camborne to Lanner, when Redruth maybe even Falmouth fire engines would be closer. No firemen at Redruth again?
