A FALMOUTH hotel has welcomed a new general manager.

Ben Young joins the Greenbank Hotel after spending 20 years in the Cornish hospitality trade.

His family built the Hotel Bristol in Newquay in 1927 and they still run it today.

His relatives are also directors of Mylor Yacht Club and Falmouth Hotel, along with other hospitality businesses across Cornwall.

"Having worked on each Cornish coast I knew my heart belonged in Falmouth," he said.

"I am privileged to be the latest custodian of the town's oldest hotel, the much-loved Greenbank.

Mr Young's career began 20 years ago with training at the 400-bedroom, four-star Kensington Palace, before studying hotel management at University College in Birmingham.

Jobs with Forte, Thistle and Whitbread in London, Birmingham and the South East followed, and his passion for the industry grew.

In 2004 he moved back to Cornwall and has spent ten years running hotels in the county, culminating with the general management of all five hotels in the Richardson Group.
