A PENSIONER is in a critical condition after his car collided with a bus on a busy street in Falmouth yesterday.

The Falmouth man, in his eighties, lost consciousness after the crash on Killigrew Street just before midday.

He was taken to Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro and the street was closed for five hours while officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit in Camborne looked into the incident.

An elderly female in her seventies, who was also in the silver Mitsubishi Colt, was taken to hospital suffering from shock after the car collided with the First Group single decker bus .

Police, fire and paramedics were on the scene shortly after the accident next to the Lister Hill and Kimberley Place junction at 11:40am.

“The elderly male was trapped in the car. It looks like as a result of the collision he lost consciousness and was treated by members of the public and ambulance crew at the scene,” said a police spokeswoman. “He remains in a critical condition.”

Police are asking for witnesses to the accident. Anyone who saw the crash should contact PC Stuart Keenan on 101, quoting log number 269 of March 10.
