Falmouth Town today announced popular former goalkeeper John Dent as their new manager following the weekend dismissal of joint managers Robbie Stephens and Gary Pascoe.
But Pascoe, who was informed by Town on Sunday, along with Stephens, that he was no longer required, has been named as Dent’s first team coach.
The Town board contacted Penzance boss Dent on Sunday evening after parting company with joint managers Stephens and Pascoe after a poor start to the season, including a 4-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Cullompton on Saturday.
Town’s players did themselves credit by only losing to a last minute goal at St Blazey on Wednesday night, while Dent took charge of Penzance’s 6-2 defeat at home to Penryn Athletic last night before saying his goodbyes at Penlee Park after a year in charge there.
Having built a promising young squad at Penzance, he took time to consider the move, having met Falmouth officials on Monday evening.
But the pull of his former club Falmouth proved too strong and he confirmed his appointment at Bickland Park on Thursday lunchtime.
Meanwhile at Penzance the Magpies are faced with yet another search for a new manager after Dent called time on his 12-month spell in charge at Penlee Park.
Club chairman Terry Burgess said: "John informed me of his decision to take up Falmouth's offer this morning and while we're all very sad to see him go, we thank him for all the good work he's done, both this season and of course during a difficult season last year and we wish him all the best in his new role.
"John has done an absolutely cracking job during his time here and he leaves us in pretty good shape with a very good set of players."
Burgess revealed that club officials were due to meet with senior members of the playing squad tonight (Thursday) to decide on the club's next course of action with regards to identifying a suitable replacement, although he felt it unlikely that any appointment will be made before Saturday's league trip to St Dennis.
Dent’s first game in charge of third from bottom Town meanwhile will be against second-placed Ivybridge Town at Bickland Park on Saturday (3pm).
